Norway has world-class data centers and the expertise needed to run and operate robust platforms that would excel in both cost and uptime. Yet, as a nation, we remain heavily reliant on a few global hyperscalers. Why? What are we missing to incrementally build a truly sovereign, competitive, and unified digital infrastructure?

This talk argues that the missing piece is a unified, open-source control plane. Without it, each local, private cloud effort risk becoming a collection of fragmented, incompatible services that cannot compete with the seamless experience of hyperscalers.

Drawing from my experience building cloud infrastructure, I will explore this gap, and introduce Ferga: an open-source, event-driven control plane designed to be the connective tissue for a sovereign cloud ecosystem. We will dive into how Ferga provides a secure, auditable, and multi-tenant layer that unifies diverse services, and how this approach directly addresses the fragmentation and vendor lock-in that holds us back.

This session is a call to action to look beyond private clouds and platforms to focus on the critical orchestration and management layers needed to secure Norway's digital future.
